UMD Suspends Club Tennis Team After Racist Imagery Sent to Rivals
The University of Maryland has indefinitely suspended its club tennis team after members sent emails containing racist imagery to other universities ahead of a fall tournament. The graphic, which targeted Black and African American people, was discovered by Recreation and Wellness staff on Saturday. While only some members sent the messages, the entire team was suspended pending an investigation by the Office of Student Conduct. The team forfeited its matches, and student leaders apologized to other tournament participants. The incident has been referred to the university police department.
