Georgia triathlon coach survives alligator attack during training
A 31-year-old triathlon coach, Jonathan Bruney, was attacked by a 4–5-foot alligator while swimming in the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia. He freed himself by shoving his thumb into the gator’s eye, and fellow athletes applied a tourniquet as he bled from a deep wound. Medics treated him, and he was told to stay out of the water for several weeks, but Bruney still plans to compete in Ironman Augusta next month.
