
Notre Dame Legend Lou Holtz Dies at 89, Leaving Lasting Football Legacy
Legendary Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz died at 89 after a period of declining health, with hospice care in Orlando. He led Notre Dame to the 1988 national championship and finished his 33-season career with a 249-132-7 record, also coaching at William & Mary, NC State, Arkansas, Minnesota and South Carolina, including a brief NFL stint with the New York Jets in 1976. Holtz later worked as a TV analyst for CBS and ESPN. He is survived by four children; his wife Beth died in 2020.
