Codex Azcatitlán Returns to Mexico for First Time in 186 Years
The Codex Azcatitlán, a 16th-century Aztec manuscript depicting the fall of the Aztec civilization, is returning to Mexico for the first time in 186 years. The document, held in France's Bibliothèque Nationale since 1898, is being loaned to Mexico to mark 200 years of Franco-Mexican relations. In exchange, Mexico is lending the Codex Boturini, which details the Aztec migration to Lake Texcoco, to France. The exchange was agreed upon by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and French President Emmanuel Macron during a visit last year.
