Arizona Fraternity Leader Sentenced to 60 Days in Jail for Role in Pledge's Fatal Hazing
Carter Eslick, a former pledge master at Northern Arizona University’s Delta Tau Delta chapter, was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation for his role in the January 31, 2026, death of 18-year-old Colin Daniel Martinez. Martinez died of acute alcohol toxicity with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.425%, more than five times the legal limit. Eslick pleaded guilty to a felony hazing charge after organizing a drinking game at an off-campus house during a recruitment event. While the university suspended the chapter and the national organization closed it, Eslick’s sentence included deferred jail time contingent on completing 305 anti-hazing presentations. The victim’s family sought reform rather than maximum prison time, while the judge emphasized the failure of bystanders to intervene.
