Whitaker Presses Freed Election Clerk Tina Peters on Conviction and Fraud Claims
CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker interviewed Tina Peters, a former Colorado election official convicted of breaching voting systems, months after her release from prison. Peters, 71, maintained her distrust of voting machines despite a state court conviction for four felonies and three misdemeanors. Whitaker challenged her on the lack of evidence for widespread fraud and her actions in disabling security cameras. Peters refused to concede her actions were illegal, citing a federal mandate to preserve records. The interview highlights ongoing tensions between the Trump administration, which pressured Colorado to release Peters, and state officials who criticized the commutation as a capitulation to political bullying.
