Dream Homes Rise as Slum Residents Co-Design Their Future in India
Ahmednagar’s Sanjaynagar slum is being redeveloped into 33 private apartments around a central courtyard, replacing 206 shacks; residents helped design their homes and can choose units and neighbors, aided by Snehalaya and architects, with funding from PMAY, Rang De, and Currystone. The project emphasizes privacy, light and ventilation, has earned World Habitat Awards Silver, and is pitched as a scalable, community-led model for inclusive urban redevelopment in India.
