Mass Sick Leave Halts 72% of Washington State Ferry Routes
Washington State Ferries canceled or reduced service across most routes on Monday, October 5, after 23 engineers called out sick and remaining staff refused coverage. KOMO reports that 72% of the system was out of operation, while FOX 13 Seattle details specific cancellations on key corridors like Seattle to Bainbridge Island and Anacortes to the San Juan Islands. Management is investigating the widespread callouts and difficulty in finding relief workers.
