The move mirrors iPhone-style customization and could hint at upcoming MacBook Pro models with more flexible CPU/GPU options.
Apple has revamped its online store to require full, feature-by-feature configuration for all Macs (MacBook Air/Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro), removing preconfigured models and making ordering more like an iPad. The new flow starts with display size and color, then chip, RAM, storage, power adapter, and keyboard language; note that the MacBook Pro still cannot be configured with an M5 Pro/Max chip.

The elevated 512GB model comes with a refreshed form-factor, 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR Display, and up to 21-hour battery. The 14-inch version is also on sale for $1,699.
