Hamas Frees 16 Hostages in Exchange for Palestinian Prisoners
Israel releases another group of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for 16 hostages freed by Hamas in Gaza. The releases come on the sixth day of a temporary truce in the Israel-Hamas war. Negotiations are underway to extend the truce and continue the exchange of prisoners. International pressure mounts for the ceasefire to continue as the conflict has led to thousands of Palestinian deaths and a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu states that Israel will resume its campaign to eliminate Hamas after the hostage releases are completed.
