State Department sets mid-September end date for global immigrant visa processing pause
The U.S. government has suspended the issuance of all immigrant visas to train consular officers on new restrictions regarding public benefits. The State Department expects this temporary hold to conclude in mid-September, with canceled interviews rescheduled for September, October, or November. This pause follows a recent federal court ruling that struck down a previous directive targeting 75 countries, which officials deemed likely to seek public assistance. While the current measure focuses on training staff to apply new inadmissibility standards, the administration is also preparing to revoke business and tourism visas for up to 200,000 individuals currently seeking asylum in the U.S.
