Satellite images from space have revealed the remains of ancient Ice Age floods in Washington state, solving a long-standing mystery about rock formations known as Channeled Scablands. The floods, which occurred 10,000 to 20,000 years ago, were caused by the bursting of a dam formed by the Cordilleran ice sheet, resulting in massive amounts of water cascading through the region. These floodwaters formed grooves, potholes, and long channels, reshaping the landscape. The discovery confirms a theory proposed by a high school teacher in 1923 and sheds light on the geological history of the area.
