National Trust Donates Record-Breaking Cabbages to Devon Animal Sanctuary
Gardeners at Buckland Abbey in Devon grew three massive Cornish Giant cabbages, one weighing 10kg and spanning 1.2 metres, for a National Trust competition. The winning produce was donated to the Woodside Animal Sanctuary in Plympton to feed its resident livestock. Senior gardener Sam Brown noted that while these exhibition-grade vegetables are watery and tasteless for humans, they are ideal for animals. Sanctuary manager Debbie Haynes confirmed the donation is a significant financial relief, as fresh produce costs are high, and the animals are enjoying the unusual treat.
