Historian Argues 1629 Batavia Mutineer Was First Corporate Psychopath
A new study argues that Jeronimus Cornelisz, a mutinous officer of the Dutch East India Company, was the first identifiable corporate psychopath. Cornelisz led survivors of the 1629 Batavia shipwreck in Australia, orchestrating the murder of approximately 100 people to consolidate power and resources. The research suggests that the toxic leadership behaviors seen in modern corporations have roots in the dawn of capitalism.
