A transgender woman, Chelsea Gilliam, has sued Maryland's corrections department for housing her with male inmates, where she was sexually assaulted and denied hormone treatment. The lawsuit alleges that the department violated Gilliam's constitutional rights by leaving her unprotected from assault, harassed, held in solitary confinement, and denied necessary medical treatment.
