Dutch court jails trio over theft of 2,500-year-old Romanian helmet
Three men were sentenced to 47 months each for stealing the 2,500-year-old Coțofenești golden helmet and three bracelets from the Drents Museum in Assen. The loot, on loan from Romania, led to a roughly €5.7 million insurance payout; two bracelets and the helmet were recovered in April after plea deals with two suspects, while a third bracelet remains missing. Despite plea bargains, the court handed identical sentences to all three, underscoring the gravity of the crime and raising questions about security of artefacts loaned abroad.
