Judge orders release of roughly $5.8 million from Trump–Carroll verdict
A Manhattan judge ordered the release of about $5.8 million (including interest) held in a court registry as part of Trump’s 2023 defamation verdict against E Jean Carroll, following the Supreme Court’s denial of review; Trump has appealed. A separate 2024 defamation award against him is $83.3 million and was secured with a bond. The Cris system kept funds in escrow during appeals to prevent manipulation, and Carroll’s team sought timely disbursement after the ruling."
