Crown of Thorns Returns to Notre Dame for Public Display
The Crown of Thorns, believed to have been worn by Jesus Christ, has returned to Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris after being saved from a devastating fire in 2019. The relic, encased in crystal and gold, was brought back in a ceremony led by the Archbishop of Paris. The cathedral, which underwent extensive restoration costing €700 million, reopened to the public on December 8, with the Crown of Thorns set to be displayed from January 10. The restoration involved around 2,000 workers and was marked by a ceremony attended by world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron.
