Cultural outings linked to slower physiological aging in England’s seniors

Older adults in England who regularly visit cinemas, museums, and theaters have a lower physiological age (66.9 vs 69.9 years) than less frequent attendees. Each additional point on a 0–15 cultural engagement scale correlates with about a 0.085‑year reduction in physiological age, and similar results appear in a four‑year follow‑up. The association remains after adjusting for income, health, and lifestyle, suggesting cultural participation may contribute to slower aging, possibly via social connections, healthier habits, or better mental health. However, the study shows correlation, not causation, and limitations include self-reported engagement and a modest effect size, with findings specific to England.
