Michigan taps Vanderbilt provost Cybele Raver as next president
The University of Michigan plans to appoint Vanderbilt provost Cybele Raver as its next president, making her the second woman to lead the university; a special board vote on Sept. 1 would confirm the appointment, with Raver taking office Dec. 1 and outgoing president Domenico Grasso stepping down Nov. 30. Raver, formerly NYU deputy provost and Vanderbilt provost since 2021, has led major initiatives, expanded research capacity and guided Vanderbilt through campus debates on free expression, while her background includes child development research and significant funding from major foundations.
