"Uncontainable Evros Fire Ravages Greece, Warns Regional Official"
A massive wildfire near the northeastern Greek region of Evros is unlikely to be contained, according to a regional official. The fire, which has been burning for nine days, is the largest single fire in the history of the EU and threatens Greece's Dadia national park. Difficult conditions and shifting winds are hindering firefighting efforts. Over 74,000 hectares of land have been scorched, including 13,000 hectares in the national park. Evacuation orders have been issued for affected villages. Greece has experienced a surge in wildfires, with climate change being cited as a contributing factor.
