Amber Guyger Released on Parole After Seven Years for Botham Jean Murder
Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was released from a Texas prison on October 16, 2026, after serving seven years of a 10-year sentence for the 2018 murder of Botham Jean. The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles granted her early release, citing good behavior and program completion, despite strong opposition from Jean’s family and community advocates. Guyger will serve the remainder of her sentence under strict supervision until 2029.
