County clash over who leads at crash briefing prompts sheriff-mayor letters
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava exchanged letters after a fatal cargo plane crash, arguing over who should speak first at the briefing and how incident communications should be handled; the sheriff said a staffer’s directive was inappropriate, while the mayor defended the county’s emergency-management authority and emphasized the need for a unified, clearly-structured response with defined roles for law enforcement and county leadership.
