Flyers Set Franchise Record With Seventh Straight Loss, Facing Historic NHL Streak

The Philadelphia Flyers set a franchise record for the worst start to a season by losing their seventh straight game, falling 4-1 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The team is now 0-5-2, outscored 28-8, and sits at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Coach Rick Tocchet faces mounting pressure, with fans chanting for his dismissal, while GM Danny Briere urges patience. The Flyers are one loss away from tying the second-worst start in NHL history.

Briere must dodge Holmgren's pitfalls as Flyers chase big offers

The Flyers’ pursuit of Leo Carlsson via an offer sheet echoes past Holmgren-era missteps: bold, front-loaded contracts and high-risk moves that failed to secure a true top-pair defenseman and left the team rebuilding with limited results. With Briere at the helm, the piece argues for calculated risks that fit a rebuilding plan rather than a spending spree on aging stars, stressing timing, fit, and avoiding replication of Holmgren’s mistakes.

Briere’s Carlsson offer sheet reboots the Flyers’ contender push

Flyers GM Danny Briere stunned the league with a five-year, $90 million offer sheet for Ducks restricted free agent Leo Carlsson, a move that could instantly vault Philadelphia into playoff contention if Anaheim doesn’t match. The aggressive bid caps a multi-year rebuild led by Briere and Keith Jones, which has included a string of bold trades, signings, and strategic cap moves designed to accelerate the club’s path back to contention. If the Ducks match, Philadelphia gains leverage and cap flexibility; if they don’t, Carlsson would provide the Flyers with a franchise-changing center and a new core to build around.

Flyers weigh Ristolainen trade as deadline looms

With the 2026 NHL trade deadline Friday, Flyers GM Danny Briere is weighing a potential move of Rasmus Ristolainen—the clearest trade chip given his healthy season and $5.1M cap hit with one year left—as Philadelphia sits six points out of a playoff spot and about a 15% chance to reach the postseason. A deal would likely target a first- or second-round pick plus a young asset, rather than a rental, as the Flyers emphasize future gains. Other names like Tippett or Brink could surface, but major activity is unlikely before the deadline.

"Flyers' Unconventional Hires: Takeaways from Jones and Briere Press Conference"

The Philadelphia Flyers have officially introduced Keith Jones as president of hockey operations and Danny Briere as general manager after two months of holding the job under an interim status. Jones, who had been Jim Jackson's broadcast partner for the last 17 Flyers seasons, will be the most important piece that glues the hockey and business sides together. Briere, who has been considered a rising talent evaluator in league circles, will have full autonomy with the roster. The Flyers are deeming this a new era and hope Friday was a pivotal step in the rebuilding process.

Keith Jones named President of Hockey Operations for Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have named Keith Jones as their team president of hockey operations and removed the interim tag from general manager Danny Briere's title. Briere was promoted to interim general manager after Chuck Fletcher was fired in early March as the organization started to shuffle the front office ahead of a lengthy rebuild. The Flyers hold the No. 7 pick in the NHL draft and are $9 million under the salary cap for next season.
