Ancestors: A Ghostly 1988 London Drama Debuts at TIFF
David Turpin’s feature debut, Ancestors, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 12, 2026. Set in a stylized 1988 London, the film follows Beau, an Irish gay man, as he searches for his missing friend Tiny after Tiny’s HIV-positive diagnosis. The narrative blends reality, memory, and the afterlife, described by Turpin as a 'séance' to honor the generation lost to the Aids crisis. While critics praised Éanna Hardwicke’s performance, opinions on the film’s structure were mixed.
