'Peanut patch' shows promise in treating toddler peanut allergies.
A skin patch developed by DBV Technologies to treat peanut allergy in toddlers has shown promise in a peer-reviewed study involving 362 children aged 1 to 3 in eight countries. The "peanut patch" outperformed a placebo in desensitizing children to peanuts and increasing the peanut dose that triggered allergic symptoms. Nearly 85% of the toddlers completed the trial, and two-thirds of those who wore the peanut patch were able to tolerate a higher amount of peanut protein at the end of the year. The patch could be a useful tool to defend those under age 4 against potentially life-threatening accidental consumption or exposure.
