RFK Campus Redevelopment Maps a Mixed-Use Path to a New DC Civic Gateway
DC’s draft 89-page RFK Campus master plan outlines a 180-acre mixed-use redevelopment around the new $3.7B, 65,000-seat Commanders stadium, with up to 6,600 homes (at least 30% affordable), 1,200 hotel rooms, 260,000 square feet of retail, and 60 acres of parks plus a public indoor sports facility; parking totals about 8,000 spaces (6,000 on-site and 2,000 surface spots to be redeveloped later), and transit upgrades include an expanded Stadium-Armory station and a proposed Gold Line bus rapid transit. The stadium is slated to open by 2030, with key parcels completed by 2040, funded in part by roughly $1 billion in taxpayer money and potentially $4 billion in new tax revenue, supporting tens of thousands of jobs. Public comment runs through mid-August.
