D.C. Returning Citizen Affairs Director Killed in Southeast E-Scooter Crash
Talib Shakir, 50, the director of the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs, died after his electric scooter collided with another at 8th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue SE on Friday evening. The other rider, an adult woman, survived and was released from the hospital. Mayor Muriel Bowser and city officials mourned Shakir, highlighting his work mentoring youth and supporting formerly incarcerated individuals. Police are investigating the crash, which adds to a rising number of traffic fatalities in the District this year.
