Blizzard's Hearthstone expansion CATACLYSM is live with 135 new cards, a Deathwing, Worldbreaker hero, six Colossals, and new mechanics Herald and Shatter; Dragonflight Defenders join several classes, Dream City Trial Cards are free during the event, and a Tavern Pass offers extra rewards ahead of patch 35.0 notes.
Hearthstone enters its 12th year with Cataclysm, an expansion releasing March 17 in the Year of the Scarab that reimagines WoW’s Cataclysm with Deathwing as the antagonist. In-universe, Murozond pulls Deathwing into Hearthstone, and Chromie with the Dragonflights recruit heroes from across time to defeat him. The update brings Colossal minions (each class gets one, plus six Deathwing lieutenants) and two new keywords, Herald (stacking with Deathwing-related cards) and Shatter (Dragonflights split for flexibility). Players will also see class-based Triumph and Last Stand spells, milestones for community rewards (including a Cataclysm signature), and March 10 trial cards for Emerald Dream and Lost City of Un'Goro during Cataclysm. A Core Set rotation accompanies the Year of the Scarab, with Core Set remaining free and aims for a stronger, more fluid meta. Visual updates, a new game board, and a Legend card back reward for 2026 top players are planned, with first-time Legend earners receiving both the new and classic backs.
At BlizzCon 2023, World of Warcraft Executive Producer announced that WoW Classic will progress to Cataclysm Classic in 2024, featuring changes based on player feedback. Players can expect to face Deathwing in the first half of 2024.
