Arizona school board meeting sparks outrage after Nazi salute
An Arizona Deer Valley Unified School District board member, Kim Fisher, raised a Nazi salute and shouted “Heil” at board President Paul Carver Jr. during a heated May 26 meeting, drawing swift condemnation from district officials. Fisher argued the timing of a work session was unfair; Carver called the gesture abhorrent and unacceptable. Fisher later labeled Carver a dictator in a Facebook livestream. A teachers’ union leader organized a rally for Fisher’s resignation, while the district stressed her actions do not reflect the district as a whole. Carver, a Marine veteran who leads the board and is running in the GOP primary for Arizona House District 2, oversees a district that serves more than 33,000 students across 41 schools.
