Bartiromo Exit Signals Fox-Trump Loyalty Boundaries

Fox News removed Maria Bartiromo after she shared internal guidance to the Trump White House about not promoting Trump’s 2020 election conspiracy theories, underscoring Fox’s effort to balance a pro-Trump audience with legal and financial risks from Dominion and Smartmatic lawsuits. The move sends a message to Fox staff that loyalty has limits and leadership (Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, and Suzanne Scott) will protect the bottom line over personal allegiance to Trump when the president’s claims threaten legal or financial exposure.

Fox News Dismisses Maria Bartiromo in Sudden Shake-Up

Fox News Media abruptly fired Maria Bartiromo after more than a decade with the company, offering no explanation. The anchor, known for Fox Business’ morning show and Sunday Morning Futures and for her pro-Trump coverage, has been off-air since August. The network will replace her Fox Business program with Mornings with FOX Business featuring rotating anchors, and Jason Chaffetz will host Sunday Morning Futures this weekend as a new host is named. The plaintiff, a software developer and Trump supporter, attended a cyber symposium hosted by Lindell and entered the contest to access data that Lindell claimed could overturn the election. Despite Lindell's claims of financial hardship, the judge affirmed the arbitration award, stating that the court's review of an arbitration award is very limited. Mike Lindell's Financial Woes: Millions in Unpaid Legal Fees

Lawyers representing Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow and a prominent supporter of the election denial movement, have filed to withdraw from several defamation lawsuits, citing unpaid fees amounting to "millions" of dollars. This development suggests that Lindell is facing financial stress. Smartmatic, one of the firms suing Lindell, expressed concern that he was using the news to fundraise for his election fraud campaign. Lindell's financial troubles come as a result of his activism related to the 2020 presidential election, which he claims has contributed to his financial woes. He has spent millions on conferences, legal efforts, and his own digital media venture to promote unproven conspiracy theories about the election. Additionally, Lindell's company, MyPillow, has faced setbacks, including the loss of distribution contracts with major retailers. Lindell's financial situation may impact the broader election denial movement and conservative media outlets that he has supported financially.

Patrick Reed's Defamation Lawsuits Dismissed by Federal Judge

A federal judge in Florida has dismissed golfer Patrick Reed's $750 million defamation lawsuits against the Golf Channel, various commentators, and media outlets. The judge ruled that Reed's complaints did not provide sufficient evidence of actual malice, and many of the statements in question were not specifically about Reed or were matters of opinion. Reed had accused the defendants of conspiring to destroy the LIV Golf Tour and labeled him as a cheater, liar, thief, murderer, and someone who accepts blood money from terrorists. The judge will decide whether the defendants are entitled to recover attorney's fees and court costs from Reed.

Fox Faces Lawsuit Over Election Falsehoods by New York City Pension Funds

New York City's pension funds have filed a lawsuit against Fox Corporation and its board, accusing the company of neglecting its duty to shareholders by repeatedly broadcasting falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election. The lawsuit, filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery, alleges that Fox knowingly amplified false claims about election rigging, exposing itself to defamation lawsuits. The pension funds, representing nearly 800,000 workers and worth $253 billion, argue that Fox's executives and board have failed to take action to minimize the risk of defamation litigation. The State of Oregon has also joined the lawsuit. Fox settled a defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems in April for $787.5 million and faces a similar lawsuit from Smartmatic.
