US approves $8.5B Chinook helicopter deal with skis for Germany
The US government has approved the sale of 60 CH-47F Chinook helicopters and related equipment to Germany for up to $8.5 billion. The proposed sale will improve Germany's heavy lift capability and strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats. The Boeing helicopters will come with a range of add-ons, including electronic counter-measures, missile warning systems, skis, and life rafts. The sale can still be blocked by Congress, but this is unlikely given Germany's status as a close ally.
