Uber Pauses European Expansion to Double Down on Delivery Hero Bid
Uber Eats has halted most of its planned European growth, cancelling launches in five of seven targeted markets (Austria, Norway, Greece among them) as it continues pursuing a €10bn bid to acquire Delivery Hero. The move follows initial launches in Finland and Denmark and comes amid regulatory scrutiny and potential resistance from Delivery Hero’s top shareholder Prosus. Uber remains active in existing markets and argues the pause could ease EU antitrust review, while the group continues to face US competition from DoorDash, leadership changes, and a recent ordering-technical issue.
