San Francisco Mayor Breed's Budget Priorities and Controversies.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed has proposed a record-high budget of $14.6 billion for each of the next two fiscal years, up 4% from the previous year's budget, despite facing a two-year deficit of $780 million. The budget reduces spending for only about half of departments, with significant increases of over 5% in a handful of departments including the SFPD. Breed avoided proposing sweeping cuts to entire programs or departments by leaving vacant jobs unfilled, spending less on equipment, reducing contract spending, and pulling money from other funding sources.
