"Exploring the Meta Quest 3: From Depth API to Accessories, Everything You Need to Know"

Meta has released an experimental Depth API for Quest 3, allowing developers to test mixed reality dynamic occlusion. The API provides a coarse depth map generated by the headset, enabling developers to implement occlusion for moving objects and finer details of static objects. However, the low depth sensing resolution may result in gaps and limited accuracy beyond 4 meters. Developers can choose between hard and soft occlusion methods, but implementing occlusion requires significant effort and the use of Meta's special occlusion shaders. The Depth API can also be used for depth-based visual effects like fog. Currently, the API is only available through experimental features and cannot be uploaded to the Quest Store or App Lab.
