Cincinnati Reds Confirm Derek Johnson Departure Amid Pitching Staff Struggles
Cincinnati Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall announced on October 1, 2026, that pitching coach Derek Johnson will not return for the 2027 season. Johnson, who joined the organization in 2019, took a personal leave of absence in June and has not returned. The club will immediately begin searching for a replacement. This decision follows a difficult 2026 season where the Reds ranked 28th in team ERA, with key starters like Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo suffering significant injuries.
