"Code Red Air Quality Alerts Issued Across Northeastern US Due to Wildfire Smoke and Climate Change"

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has issued warnings of poor air quality in Delaware due to wildfires in eastern Canada emitting particulate matter into the atmosphere. The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS), Division of Public Health (DPH) has advised all individuals to limit prolonged or heavy physical activity and time spent outdoors and to stay indoors, preferably in a space with filtered air. DNREC has declared a Code Red Action Day for particulate matter for Wednesday, June 7 and Thursday, June 8.

STD Rates on the Rise in Missouri and Across the US

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has reported an increase in sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), particularly syphilis and congenital syphilis, which has risen from two cases in 2015 to 63 in 2021. The DHSS is encouraging the public to practice safe sex and seek routine testing for STDs. The department is also expanding its STD and HIV testing sites with free testing. The DHSS is asking all pregnant women in Missouri to be screened for syphilis to avoid future negative health consequences that could lead to a baby being born with low weight or as a stillborn.
