Monzo Enters Early Talks with Nubank for Potential £10bn Takeover
UK digital bank Monzo is in early-stage discussions with Brazilian giant Nubank regarding a potential acquisition that could value the London-based firm at up to £10 billion. The talks, first reported by Sky News, involve a mix of cash and shares and are being advised by Morgan Stanley and Qatalyst. Simultaneously, Monzo is exploring a partial sale of up to 15% of its business to private equity firms or a traditional venture capital round to secure growth capital. These strategic options come after a turbulent year involving the departure of CEO TS Anil and a boardroom rebellion by major investors. Under new CEO Diana Layfield, Monzo has closed its US operations and expanded into Ireland and Spain, while its 2026 fiscal year saw revenues rise 39% to £1.7bn. A sale to Nubank, which has 140 million customers and a $65bn valuation, would represent a significant blow to the London Stock Exchange, which had long hoped for a Monzo listing.
