Dick Vitale Faces Fifth Cancer Diagnosis, Begins Immunotherapy
Famed ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale, 86, disclosed that biopsy results confirmed melanoma in the lung and liver, and he will start immunotherapy. This marks his fifth cancer diagnosis after previously beating melanoma, lymphoma, vocal-cord cancer and lymph-node cancer. He recently returned to ESPN ahead of March Madness 2025 and remains optimistic, while continuing his pediatric cancer fundraising, including the 21st Dick Vitale Gala on May 1 in Sarasota that aims to raise about $12 million; the gala has already raised more than $105 million for cancer research.
