Scientists have developed a method to write directly into liquid water using a chemical process called diffusioosmosis. By using a low concentration of charged particles as the "paper," large colloidal particles as the "ink," and a small ion-exchange bead as the "pen," clear and long-lasting patterns can be created below the surface of the water. The technique relies on a concentration gradient effect, and the team is exploring different ways to steer the pen, such as using magnetism or electrical fields.
