Google Meet Enhances Direct Calling and Introduces Car Mode for Mobile Users
Google Meet is now allowing enterprise users on Workspace to make direct 1:1 video calls without the need for a meeting link. This feature brings the functionality of personal users to enterprise customers, enabling them to place cloud-encrypted video calls to colleagues within their organization. The calls include features like in-meeting chat, virtual backgrounds, visual effects, and live closed captions. The Google Meet app is also receiving a slight redesign, with a new "Start a call" screen and a simplified interface for initiating calls. This feature will be available to all Google Workspace customers in the coming weeks.
