Elderly In-Laws Plead Not Guilty in Killing of NYT Executive at Dublin Park
Shili Chen and Shouyong Zhang, both 77, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges for the September 26 shooting death of their son-in-law, Jonathan McKinsey, at a Dublin, California park. Prosecutors allege the couple waited in a parking lot to kill McKinsey, a 40-year-old New York Times executive, during a supervised visit with his children. Defense attorneys argue the couple acted out of fear after witnessing a threat to their grandchildren and that McKinsey had previously hired a hitman. A judge unsealed the case after a legal challenge by The New Yorker, revealing details of a bitter divorce and custody battle between McKinsey and his wife, Candice Jang. If convicted, the couple faces life in prison without parole.
