Florida 'Anti-Drag' Law Blocked by Federal Judge.
A federal judge in Orlando has issued a preliminary injunction blocking the enforcement of a Florida law that opponents say stifles the free expression of drag artists. The law, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, aims to shield children from obscene “adult live performances.” However, Hamburger Mary’s, a drag-themed restaurant, filed a lawsuit challenging the bill, alleging that it “seeks to explicitly restrict, or chill speech and expression protected by the First Amendment based on its content, its message, and its messenger.” The judge agreed and cited the law’s vague and overbroad language as justification for issuing the injunction.
