Zero-gravity Hanukkah: Astronaut's Spinning Dreidel Defies Gravity in Space
NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli celebrated the first night of Hanukkah aboard the International Space Station (ISS) by spinning a dreidel in front of a felt menorah. Due to safety regulations, open flames are not allowed on the ISS, so Moghbeli used a felt display instead of lighting candles. The dreidel, a four-sided top used in a Hanukkah game, floated in microgravity and continued spinning until it bumped against the camera lens and the space station's window. The lack of a clearly defined orientation in microgravity raises questions about the possibility of playing a true game of dreidel in space.
