
Gas-Price Pressure Spurs Hypermilers to Max Out Miles Per Gallon
Amid sharply higher gasoline costs driven by the Iran conflict, a growing group of drivers known as hypermilers are trying to squeeze more miles out of every gallon through fuel-saving tactics—gradual acceleration, gentle braking at yellows, keeping steady speeds, and other techniques. Some hybrids and regular cars see meaningful gains, but results vary with traffic, terrain and safety considerations, so the savings aren’t universal.
