Mosquito Population Soars Amidst Drought in Louisiana
The dry summer weather in East Baton Rouge Parish has led to an unusual mosquito breeding season, resulting in a "mosquito pandemic" in the area. The East Baton Rouge Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control crews are working overtime to address the issue, spraying around 200 homes a day instead of the usual 100. The mosquitoes were bred in Lake Maurepas and blown towards Baton Rouge, leading to heavier swarms. To avoid bites, residents are urged to apply bug spray, and the mosquito control service is available at no extra cost to taxpayers.
