Duane Ward, Key Jays Reliever Behind 1992-93 Titles, Dies
Former Blue Jays reliever Duane Ward has died in Toronto. A staple of Toronto’s bullpen from 1988–1993, Ward formed a dominant late-inning pair with Tom Henke and helped the Blue Jays win back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. He posted a standout 1991 season (All-Star, 2.77 ERA) and, in 1993, led the American League with 45 saves. Across 462 games, Ward finished with 121 saves, 679 strikeouts and a 3.28 ERA in his big‑league career. The Blue Jays issued the announcement of his passing.
