Huron, Ohio: $850,000 Earth-Sheltered Home with Mowable Roof Hits Market
A 2,100-square-foot earth-sheltered home in Huron, Ohio, has been listed for $850,000. Built into a hillside in 1977, the property is 90% underground, featuring a roof covered in dirt, ivy, and myrtle that requires regular mowing. The interior offers a traditional ranch layout with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and ample natural light from skylights and windows, though one bedroom lacks windows entirely. The eight-acre parcel includes 250 feet of Huron River waterfront, a log cabin, and a workshop. Listing agent Laurie Brill noted the absence of comparable properties in northern Ohio made pricing difficult, but the unique design eliminates the need for traditional roof, siding, and gutter maintenance.
