Deadly Congo Fever Outbreak Hits Namibia, Claims Life
Namibia is facing an outbreak of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), one of the world's deadliest diseases, after a man died from the tick-borne virus. CCHF has a mortality rate of up to 40%, similar to that of Ebola and Marburg, and can spread between humans through bodily fluids or among hospital patients if medical equipment is not properly sterilized. The WHO has identified CCHF among its nine 'priority' diseases that pose the biggest risk to public health due to a lack of treatments or their ability to cause a pandemic.
