Bolivia declares nationwide emergency to break blockade amid protests
Bolivia’s president Rodrigo Paz declared a nationwide state of emergency to clear road blockades that have disrupted food, fuel, and medical supplies, after weeks of protests backed by workers, farmers and Evo Morales supporters who urge Paz to resign. The move paves the way for military and police intervention, following a prior law allowing armed forces to intervene, as the country grapples with an economic crisis, subsidy cuts, inflation and shortages.
